weekly belly dance classes for beginner, intermediate and advanced students, ladies night out events, birthday parties , troupe experiences and workshops.

Belly Dance is a full body workout that tones the abs, waist, arms, legs, thighs, and glutes. Shimmy Dreams offers Egyptian and Turkish style Belly Dance classes, as well as cardio belly dance to help you sweat, and tone your body. We also are forming a professional and multilevel troupe of dancers to perform at local events.
Samira Dawn has been a fitness professional and Belly Dance teacher for 14 years. She has performed Belly Dancing at hundreds of events in the San Francisco Bay Area and Has been a regular featured belly dancer at 8 Morroccan style restaurants throughout the east bay over the last 14 years. Her performance style is Cabaret, and deeply rooted in the belly dance traditions of ancient Egypt. She is known as an energetic and elegant dancer with lots of personality, energy, beauty, and passion in her dance.
She now shares her passion for belly dance both by teaching regular classes at Shimmy Dreams and around the Bay Area, and by performing at events and festivals.

June 1st- 2:00-4:30- Rhythms and Dance Workshop with Live Drumming: Malfuf, Wahida, Maqsum, and Baladi- rhythms of Aziza-
Come join Samira Dawn & professional drummer Brian Nutson for a workshop which will help you understand, identify, and dance to Malful, Wahida, Maqsum & Baladi- rhythms that are found in many traditional belly dance pieces. This workshop is for all levels of belly dancers- whether you are seeking to understand the basics of the rhythms or looking to polish you solo dancing with live music.
You will receive a handout detailing the rhythms, accents, how to say the rhythms, and finger cymbal options. Then Brian will break down and play each rhythm on the drum and we will practice dancing to it.
You will also receive a written overview of the melodies that accompany the rhythms to the song Aziza. Brian will demonstrate how the melodies overlay the rhythms and then Samira will lead dancers in improvisational dance techniques that can be used to both the rhythms and melodies. We will finish with practicing parts of the song Aziza-. The last 1/2 hour of the workshop will be dedicated to dancers taking turns doing short solos to parts of the music and cheering each other on.
Early Bird Workshop cost- $35 before May 24. After May 24- and at the door cost will be $40.
June 8-2:30-4:30- Solo Dancing In Small Restaurants Workshop by Samira Dawn-Music, Dancing, Veil, Sword, Customers, Tip taking and More-
Come polish your skills for restaurant dancing. Whether you are preparing for dancers nights, or are seeking professional gigs in small restaurants -this workshop will give you helpful insights and skills so you are prepared. You will practice dancing in small spaces with your veil, cymbals, and sword, dancing with customers, taking tips, and entrances and exits.
Samira Dawn will also discuss working with restaurant owners, variety in restaurants and expectations in regards to music, specialties, dress, and dancers pay. Samira Dawn has danced as a regular house dancer at 10 bay area restaurants over the last 15 years.
